The Spirit Bird of Hidden Beauty

This bird began as a long travertine cylinder, probably once an industrial roller, that sat for years waiting for its purpose. It echoes the forms of Bird with Gold Collar and The Queen of Hearts, but where those birds are warm and lyrical, this one is stark: vertical, hard-edged, masculine, self-sufficient, and a little aloof. The cool stone keeps its distance. It also holds a secret. Fine crystals line the voids that run through the stone, and in the right light they flare into brilliant fire.
