Shelter

It began with a semicircular sliver of stone, one edge thin as an axe blade and the other refined until the form became an arch, a slice of a hollow mountain. Like a rainbow, the arch needed anchoring, and a block of seasoned oak with a diagonal grain gave it ground. The empty space beneath the arch asked for a third element. After many trials, a dark green jasper sphere answered the earth tones around it. Through fine adjustments in changing light, the three settled into harmony, and the orb now seems to float serenely, sheltered beneath the stone.
