Insomnia: Envy
In the small hours, when the body is exhausted but the mind won't rest, envy creeps in. This face keeps that vigil. Its eyes drift apart: one is drawn outward toward what others have and have done, while the other loses sight of what is its own. Each comparison is unfair and quietly distorting. The crescent form points to the moon, the old suspect behind sleepless nights. The stone has its own history: Tennessee Pink marble salvaged from the facade of the demolished Australian embassy in Washington, DC, its warm surface still bearing the break.
